Dao Philosophy in Traditional Chinese Medicine
philosophy of Dao

In traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Dao is often described as "road" or "way of life", the same as in the ancient Indian Ayurveda.

Dao is the law of balance by living in harmony with nature as well as trying to keep his balance.

Ancient Chinese people believed that a balance in all areas of life is essential to achieving long life and derive pleasure in life.

Man "driven" by the three energies are: Qi or Chi, Shen, and Jing. Chi is energy or vital substance, Shen is spirit, and Jing is our essence.

Qi is the life force (or vital substance) and the organizing principle flowing through all things and establish their relevance.

The Chinese believe that every living thing (both human and non-human) has qi. In the body, Qi found in the heart and lungs in the circulation of blood and oxygen.

Shen is the energy that gives brightness to life and is responsible for consciousness and mental abilities. Shen also sometimes equated with the soul.

In each individual, Shen materialized in the form of personality, thought, sensory perception, and self-awareness.

While Jing is responsible for growth, development, and reproduction. Jing is a person's potential to grow.

The Chinese believe that everyone is born with a limited number of Jing. In the course of life, people are taking Jing little by little.

So someone ran out of Jing, it will not be replaced. Someone will lose Jing if life is wrong or careless.

But Jing can be preserved if a person can live a balanced life. Acupuncture is believed to reduce the loss of Jing.

The Role of Acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine

According to the philosophy of Dao, the role of the acupuncturist is to restore health and allows you to stay a little closer to the Dao, so as to preserve Jing and can live up to the elderly.

A number of factors may contribute to the reduced Jing. Excessive life, drinking too much, excessive emotional reactions, working too hard, inappropriate s*xual behavior, etc., are all believed to result in reduced Jing.

Balance in all things are considered as key to the achievement of health and long life.
